Cornwall Design Week 2010

University College Falmouth, DOTT, Cornwall Council and the Cornwall Design Forum have formed a project team with a collective aspiration to develop a Cornwall Design Week.

It is our aspiration that people across the county will experience design in innovative and inspiring ways. By displaying design work in shop windows and public spaces, we propose turning Falmouth, Penryn, Truro and Redruth into unique and accessible exhibition venues. This will be complemented with a programme of talks and lectures, business-focused events, educational projects and interactive experiences. Simultaneously there will be other related events across Cornwall, including designers’ ‘Open Studios’. Everyone – from families, students and visitors to schools, academics and businesses – will have the opportunity to enjoy and be a part of this creative experience.

We have taken inspiration from the highly respected London Design Festival and Dutch Design Week; both of which are extremely successful and attract thousands of visitors annually. Cornwall Design Week will also attract visitors, engage local businesses, grow the local economy, help the design and manufacturing sectors, raise student aspiration, and put Cornwall on the international design map. We are holding a stakeholder event next month and will be able to tell you more then.
